The first two books in this new series are here. I gather the concept comes from the same person who came up with Zac Power. The idea of the series is apparently that most people think of girls as either pink and frilly or as adventurous tom-boy types, but the girl is often the same with aspects of both at different times, or coexisting at the same time. Emma Jacks is an ordinary schoolgirl who struggles with friends, competition, enemies and all the ordinary things girls struggle with, but she’s also E J 12, SHINE special agent, part of the battle between good and evil, with SHINE the good, and SHADOW the bad. There’s code breaking, evil scientists, gadgets and gizmos, and lots of excitement. Two books start the series, Hot and Cold at a special introductory price of $10, and Jump Start at $16. These books are meatier than the Zac Power series, with few illustrations, a smaller font and more pages, and should be enjoyed by good readers of seven and many of their older friends.
